Founded in 1963 in Mitchell, SD., TRAIL-EZE originally manufactured products for the agricultural industry. As times changed, TRAIL-EZE evolved into a manufacturer of custom trailers. During our history, TRAIL-EZE added a second manufacturing plant in Platte, SD in 1974 and a third manufacturing plant in Corsica, SD in 1992.

The Platte plant was expanded in 1979, adding a new welding and paint facility, doubling the size and capacity. That wasn’t enough. In 2007 a new manufacturing facility was added.

In 1989, TRAIL-EZE purchased Prairie States Equipment. The name was changed to Petro Steel and was moved to Corsica in 1992. They started off building tank trailers. The demand for hydraulic tails was too much for the other two plants to handle so it was decided that Corsica would be the headquarters for that design. The name was changed to TRAIL-EZE and in 2005 a new production plant was added.

Mitchell built a new manufacturing facility in 2001 along with an addition to the main office after the 2000 microburst that devasted the site. The storm couldn’t have come at a better time as Mitchell was needing to expand. The most recent expansion was the addition of a purpose-built facility for trailer finishing in 2018. This 42,000 square foot facility allows each trailer to be media blasted, primed, painted, plumbed, wood decked and inspected all under the same roof.

Our commitment to continued improvement never ends. Currently, TRAIL-EZE is in the process of installation of robotic welding cells to improve the efficiency of our manufacturing process.
